Vartech's lux meter range covers two models - the V 6610 B and V 6610+ - that split along a single practical line: fixed sensor with finer resolution and wider range, or a detachable flexible sensor for measuring in places the meter body itself can't reach. Both cover general lighting measurement work; which one to buy depends on where and how you'll actually be taking readings.
Fixed Sensor or Detachable Flexible Sensor?
The V 6610 B has its sensor built into the meter body - simpler to use for straightforward readings where the meter itself can be positioned at the measurement point. The V 6610+ instead has a detachable sensor head on an approximately 15 cm coiled lead, supplied in a protective holster - letting you position the sensor independently of the meter body. This matters in confined or awkward locations: measuring illuminance inside an enclosure, close to a fitting where the full meter body won't fit, or at a work surface while holding the display at a readable angle.
Think about where the sensor needs to physically sit
Range and Resolution
The V 6610 B covers a wider 0-199999 Lux range with finer resolution stepping (0.1 Lux below 200 Lux, 1 Lux above), and ±4% accuracy when calibrated against a standard tungsten flat lamp at 2856 K. The V 6610+ covers 0.1 to 200,000 Lux as a 3½-digit (2000-count) auto-ranging instrument, with accuracy varying by range and resolution setting (±(3%+10d) to ±(5%+10d) depending on the reading). For general lighting-level surveys and compliance checks against a lux specification, both cover the practical working range comfortably - the V 6610 B's finer resolution and tighter accuracy matter more when you need to document a precise reading rather than confirm a level is broadly within spec.
Lux/FC Selection and Data Features
Both models offer Lux/FC (foot-candle) unit switching, Data Hold, and Min/Max hold. The V 6610 B adds a data recording facility; the V 6610+ adds Auto data recording and a REL (relative/zero-reference) function, useful for measuring a light-level difference against a reference point rather than an absolute value. Both run on readily available batteries (9 V for the V 6610 B, 2× AAA for the V 6610+) with backlit displays for low-light readability.
Quick Reference by Use Case
- General lighting surveys, open/accessible measurement points: V 6610 B - wider range, finer resolution.
- Confined spaces, awkward angles, inside fittings or enclosures: V 6610+ - detachable flexible sensor.
- Precise documented readings against a lux specification: V 6610 B's tighter accuracy and finer resolution.
- General compliance checks where broad range coverage matters most: either model comfortably covers standard lighting-design lux levels.
