Vartech V 8222 H LCR Digital Multimeter Guide

A True RMS multimeter and an LCR meter in one handheld instrument - what the V 8222 H's inductance and capacitance ranges cover and who it actually suits.

A standard multimeter measures voltage, current and resistance. An LCR meter measures inductance, capacitance and resistance. The Vartech V 8222 H does both from one handheld instrument - a genuinely useful combination for anyone who needs component-level LCR checks alongside routine electrical measurement, without carrying two separate instruments.

What the LCR Function Actually Covers

The V 8222 H measures inductance from 2 mH to 20 H across 2 auto ranges, with accuracy of ±(2.5% rdg + 30 digits), and capacitance from 20 nF to 2 mF across 6 auto ranges, with accuracy of ±(3.5% rdg + 20 digits). That's enough range to cover the great majority of discrete inductors and capacitors encountered in general electronics, motor-run and motor-start capacitor checks, and coil/transformer winding inductance verification - component-level LCR work rather than the tighter tolerances and multi-frequency testing a dedicated bench LCR meter provides.

Auto-ranging on L and C

Inductance, capacitance and frequency ranging is automatic on the V 8222 H, while voltage, current and resistance ranging is manual - so when you switch to LCR measurement you don't need to guess a range first, the meter finds it. This matters in practice because component values in the field are rarely known precisely before you measure them.

Full Multimeter Function on the Same Instrument

Alongside LCR measurement, the V 8222 H is a complete True RMS digital multimeter: DC/AC voltage to 1000 V/750 V, DC/AC current to 20 A, resistance to 200 MΩ, frequency and duty cycle to 20 MHz across 7 auto ranges, and temperature from -20°C to 1000°C with a probe. True RMS measurement means accurate readings on the distorted waveforms found around VFDs and switch-mode loads - not just clean sine waves. Transistor (hFE) test, continuity and diode test round out the standard multimeter feature set.

Who This Instrument Actually Suits

The V 8222 H suits electronics technicians, service and repair work, and general maintenance where component-level LCR checks come up occasionally alongside routine electrical measurement - motor-run capacitor testing, coil continuity and inductance checks, and general component verification on a bench or in the field. If LCR measurement is your primary, daily task rather than an occasional check, a dedicated bench LCR meter with multiple test frequencies and tighter accuracy will serve you better - see our Vartech LCR meter buying guide for that comparison.

Quick Reference

  • Occasional LCR checks alongside routine multimeter work: V 8222 H covers both from one instrument.
  • Motor-run/start capacitor and coil inductance checks: covered directly by the auto-ranging L/C function.
  • Daily, primary LCR measurement work: a dedicated bench LCR meter (LCR-1B, LCR-2A) offers multi-frequency testing and tighter accuracy.
  • General electrical measurement (V/A/Ω) with occasional temperature checks: fully covered by the same instrument.
