About This Instrument

The CIE/555 is a hand-driven generator-type insulation tester housed in a high-grade moulded bakelite body, offering a compact and economical option for direct-reading insulation resistance testing on electrical operating machines, rotating plant equipment, stationary apparatus, control and switching equipment, distribution networks, communication cables, insulators, transformers, and industrial installations. Like CIE's other hand-driven insulation testers, the CIE/555 uses a hand-driven clutch-type A.C. generator paired with a high-sensitivity cross-coil indicator, with generated A.C. voltage converted to D.C. via silicon diodes. The instrument is dust-free, with rubber shoes holding the surface and giving the unit stability during use, and a collapsible driven handle that folds flush into the casing when not in operation. The CIE/555 is a versatile instrument for locating intermittent shorts, defective electrical connections, insulation failure, and conductor failure — helping prevent costly repairs and breakdowns. It is suited to testing up to 1000 V, making it well matched to lower-voltage panels, household and light industrial equipment, and general electrical maintenance work.
